Meet Registered Nurse-Clinical Educator, Krystal Yasukawa for Garden Isle Rehab & Nursing and Hale Kūpuna in Kauaʻi.

What do you do for Workforce Development?

I am a Clinical Educator. As a clinical educator, my role is to encourage and walk alongside the nursing students through their experiences on the floor, helping them build confidence, skills, and judgment as they grow into safe and compassionate nurses.

What do you do outside of work?

I homeschool my four daughters and currently attend University of Hawaiʻi Hilo online for my Doctorate in Nursing Practice degree. There's very little time for me to do anything for myself, but when I do, I love eating at restaurants, spending time with family and friends, indulging in a good book, binge-watching, streaming a series all day, and doing anything there is possible in nature.

How did you get interested in workforce development/education?

In the role of workforce development/education, I have a part in shaping the future of healthcare on Kaua'i. The Nurse Aide Training Program and CNA to LPN Bridge Program gives our employees the opportunity to further their education, and I hope to be a strong educator that closes these gaps, preparing students for the realities of nursing practice, and ensuring our community has safe, compassionate care for the future.

What do you love most about your role?

I love seeing the growth of the students, seeing their confidence, skills, and compassion develop as they transform from beginners into capable, caring nurse aides and nurses.
