What do you do at Ann Pearl Rehab & Nursing?
Hi, my name is Tina Marie Alvarez. I am a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) at Ann Pearl.
How did you get interested in the healthcare field?
I was inspired to become a CNA because three reasons: 1) at the age of 12, I had seen my dad unresponsive and as a child I didn’t know what to do. 2) When my daughter was born, she had a lot of health problems. I wanted to know what I could do to be there if I needed to save her life or the lives of my other children. 3) I knew from those two experiences that I wanted to care for more people other than my family. I wanted to care for others. I enjoy it. I love taking care of other people.
What advice would you have for others interested in a career with Ann Pearl Rehab & Nursing or the healthcare field?
It’s important to learn how to work together and it’s important to have a lot of health workers.
What does Asian American and Pacific Islanders Heritage Month mean to me?
It’s important to respect our elders in this culture. We take care of our kūpuna, our older people, even if they’re not family.
Who or what influenced you to be the person that you are today?
My dad, my kids, my family. Because I want to be there to take care of the things they can’t take care of, their everyday life.
